My carving kits are made to order - please allow up to two weeks for dispatch. I am currently shipping orders to the following places: UK, USA, Canada and Europe. If you live outside of the UK, please be prepared to pay additional customs and import charges. More information about delivery can be found at the bottom of this page.

About this Carving Kit

This CARVING KIT has been created to accompany my CARVE A PUPPET BIRD tutorial series. If you wish to take part in the tutorials, you will need to purchase one of these kits. You can chose between two designs: a SWALLOW (shown here) or a GOLDFINCH.

The SERIES TRAILER gives you an overview of the whole project. VIDEO 1 shows you what is inside a carving kit! VIDEOS 2 and 3 talk you through the tools, paints and equipment that you will need to complete the project. There is also a KIT LIST to accompany the series, which you can download below.

This CARVING KIT contains:

• 1 x control rod (a 33cm length of carbon fibre rod)

• 1 x BODY CARVING BLANK (cut from lime wood with top and profile view labels)

• 1 x LEFT WING CARVING BLANK (cut from lime wood with top view label)

• 1 X RIGHT WING CARVING BLANK (cut from lime wood with top view label)

• 1 X TAIL CARVING BLANK (cut from lime wood with top and bottom view labels)

• 1 x reference sheet, including colour swatches

• 2 x control pieces (cut from lime wood)

• 1 x box of sundry materials, including

  • 1 x 12mm wooden bead (for the control)

  • 1 x hook and 3 x screw eyes (for the control)

  • 2 x black glass beads on wire (for the eyes)

  • 1 x spare black bead and 5 x brass crimps on wire

  • 2 x long lengths of black elastic (for assembling the wings)

  • 1 x short length of black elastic, threaded with 2 x dowel plugs (for attaching the tail)

  • 2 x lengths of braided thread (for stringing the wings)

  • Black ostrich feathers (for the swallow tail)

Please note: the contents of your carving kit will come as pictured, but the packaging may vary. The maximum number of carving kits per order is six. These carving kits will be packaged individually.

Recommended Participant Age: 16+

These tutorials are intended for ADULTS. They are not suitable for children as they involve the use of sharp equipment and epoxy glues. My carving kits are resources for adult learning. They are NOT intended as toys for children (and are not made to toy safety regulations). It is therefore your responsibility to supervise any child’s play with your finished puppet.
