The green man is an ancient symbol, believed by many to represent rebirth and man’s close affinity with nature. It can be found in architectural carvings across the world, both in secular and Ecclesiastical buildings. Many of Britain’s churches contain a green man, though it is possible that this ancient fertility ‘god’ pre-dates Christianity.
This necklace has been hand carved from seasoned lime wood and hand painted with water-based wood dyes*. It is a unique item and so far the first of its kind. Once painted the wood is sealed with Danish oil for water resistance**. This also gives the colours a vibrant lustre and the wood a silky tactility.
The necklace is strung on multiple strands of waxed cotton cord, converging in an adjustable button/loop fastening. Alternatively it can be re-strung with beads in the style of my more recent pieces - please select this option at the checkout.
My pieces are unique craft items and cannot be mass produced. Sometimes subtle chisel marks will be present on the carvings - these are the marks of the artist and they make each piece truly individual!
All of my carved pieces come packaged in a cardboard presentation box with a free A6 postcard.
ALLERGEN ADVICE
*I use Bolgers Water Based Wood Stains, which are environmentally friendly, non-toxic, odourless and VOC free.
**Rustins Danish oil is not VOC free, though I only use it in very small quantities! It conforms to The Articles in Contact with Food Regulations and to the Toys (Safety) Regulations 1995, BS:EN71 Part 3. However, please note that Danish Oil contains tung oil which is extracted from nuts, and may therefore be unsuitable for severe nut allergy sufferers.
CARING FOR YOUR PIECE
I finish each piece with Rustins Danish oil and/or beeswax for water resistance and durability. However, care should be taken in looking after your piece: avoid exposing your necklace to rainy, wet or damp conditions and store it in a dry place. If desired, you can re-treat the wood with either danish oil or beeswax polish every 1-2 years, which will help to maintain its lustre!

For jewellery items currently in stock, please allow 1-2 days for dispatch. All jewellery items are sent by Royal Mail Special Delivery (tracked and signed), and should arrive by 1pm the following day after dispatch. This is subject to this service being available in your area.
International Orders: USA, Canada and mainland Europe

For jewellery items currently in stock, please allow 1-2 days for dispatch. International orders will be sent with Royal Mail's International Tracked service, subject to it’s availability in your part of the world (a signature may be required in some countries). This will take up to 7 working days to arrive following dispatch. I cannot assume responsibility for delays or additional costs encountered due to customs agencies, though I am happy to chase up delayed orders on behalf of a customer.
